It is exposing people to the contents of scripture through a consistent method of working through passages in which the points of the sermon are based on the&nbsp; text. Background study, cross reference, contextualization as well as language studies are used to expose the scripture to people. The most common method of exposition on a long term basis is to preach through books of the Bible. The method let's God's Word speak to people through the explanation of the preacher.</p>

The environment of Corinth was such that they were constantly around temptation to sin. Their attitudes through strife and division had also put them in a position to be ungrateful and vulnerable. Self-interest and failure to depend on God had made them vulnerable to sin by not depending on God and being ungrateful for what God had done in them and wanted to do through them.</p>

From his home base in London and particular the future Tabernacle area he felt led to venture out to the area of Moorfields which was one of the roughest places in London. He had preached there some before his trip to America in 1740 but it was not a sustained effort. Now, he decided to go with fellow exhorters and prayer partners to preach in the difficult and if not at times very immoral place.</p>

Those who favored a middle course for the awakening were called "New Lights". Some opposed the excess emotionalism in the Great Awakening. They became known as the "Old Lights." Among the Presbyterians the schism was called the Old Side and the New Side.</p>
