The New Testament Church is a Local Visible Assembly of Believers

The Bible is clear that the church is a local assembly on earth and not an invisible glob of people that say they are believers but never assemble here on earth. The latter is the “Kingdom of God” we all enter into by spiritual birth (John 3:3). It is not synonymous with what God’s Word calls the church here on earth.

What it Means to be a Fool for Christ's Sake

I Cor. 4:10 "We are fools for Christ Sake, but you are wise in Christ, we are weak but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised."

Paul uses this term as a poignant reminder that we're not in a popularity contest with the world as far as our religion. We don't seek to offend, be hated or become a target, it just happens. It happens because Jesus said, "If they hated me, they will hate you. If they persecute me, they will persecute you" (Matthew 5:12-13, John 17:14).

CLIVE STAPLES LEWIS (1898–1963) Great Christian Apologist

CLIVE STAPLES LEWIS (1898–1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the 20th century and arguably the most influential Christian writer of his day. His major contributions in literary criticism, children's literature, fantasy literature, and popular theology brought him international renown and acclaim. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include The Chronicles of Narnia, Out of the Silent Planet, The Four Loves, The Screwtape Letters, and Mere Christianity.

The Test of Temptation

Scripture: Matthew 4:1-11, Text: Matthew 4:10, September 19 2004

It is inevitable that sooner or latter temptation will come knocking on your door. You may not be led to temptation, but it will follow you. Or like the bumper sticker I once saw which read: “Don’t lead me to temptation, I can find it myself.” Whether we find it ourselves, someone leads us to it or it seeks us out.

From Small Beginnings to a Great Movement (Part 2 of the Miss. Gulf Coast Jr. College Revival of 1972)

Tom Carroll seemed to be a searching soul as I ran into him my Sophomore year at Miss. Gulf Coast Jr. College Library in Perkinston that fall. I had just had a life-altering week of commitment at the Baptist Student Union week at Ridgecrest, NC that summer. I recommitted my life to preach the gospel and for ministry there on campus. I decided to seek to witness to as many people as I could.
