DAN NELSON, PASTOR
Our Pastor, Dan Nelson has served as our longest tenured pastor. He was saved, baptized, and called to preach at an early age. He has served as an evangelist, and also as a staff member of the Northwest Baptist Convention working with youth evangelism. He has served three churches as their pastor and has been an ordained minister of the gospel for over 44 years while serving as Pastor of First Baptist Church for 32 years, coming to Camarillo in 1984.
Dan is a graduate of William Carey University. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Seminary, the Doctor of Philosophy degree from California Graduate School of Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Pastor Dan teaches God’s Word continually. He preaches during the Sunday Morning Service and leads a Bible study on Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. He has also preached through the New Testament, chapter by chapter, over the last 12 years. Dan believes the Bible is the Inspired Word of God and that is reflected in his preaching. The Bible is used through reading, interpretation, and application in the services here at First Baptist Church.
"Baptist Revival: Reaffirming Baptist Principles in Today's Changing Church Scene" is Pastor Dan's first book just published a few months ago. He also hopes to see a second book released this year on the life of the George Whitefield entitled "A Burning Shining Light: The Testimony and Witness of George Whitefield" and is also working on a third book to be submitted for publication soon: "Game On All the Time: Growing up in the Home of a Legendary Football Coach: L.R. Nelson."
Dan loves Christian History and has taught Church History at Channel Islands Bible College and Seminary. He has done dramatic presentations, such as his portrayal of George Whitefield, great evangelist of the First Great Awakening in Great Britain and America.
Our pastor has a vision to reach people for Christ from all backgrounds, cultures and age-groups. He is actively involved in church-wide visitation and seeks to train others to win people to Christ. He believes the church is not a club but an incorporating fellowship that should always be expanding in ministry and outreach to the community. He calls people to Christ in the public invitation as well as seeking to reach others for Christ through personal evangelism.
Dan and his wife, Janice, have been married for over 42 years. They have two grown daughters who live in the Pacific Northwest and Arizona. Janice is the church pianist and is a registered nurse.
Dan looks forward to meeting you and sharing more about the exciting opportunities of First Baptist Church of Camarillo. He wants to help you become involved in the church and ministry, and feels we are the type of church you will want to be a part of while associating with God's people and the teaching of God's Word.
